My name is Scott Hargroves. I create things out of pixels, mainly for the web, but sometimes just for kicks. Like when I built a Multitouch table in my spare time. I do other stuff too, like making short films, taking photos and sometimes sending the odd tweet.

I wished you were there…

31 May

My second YouTube dumping recently. Im allowed though because of how amazing this experience was for me.

We all managed to plow through the 30cm of thick sticky mud in the Jazz World Field to make it over to see them. The rain had stopped in a almost ‘on purpose’ kind of way. We found an excellent position in front on the sound tower. Right in the middle of the stage. Then this happened. For me the reason why Glastonbury is so amazing. My defining moment from last year.

Im not really one to go posting YouTube videos (mainly because I don’t spend a great deal of time on there) but this one is worth sharing.

I love Tom Waits music and urge ya’ll to check him out, if you haven’t already. Enjoy.

Its morphin’ time!

So I just got back watching Iron Man after being told its rather entertaining by more than a couple of people, and OH MY GOODNESS ME. Jeff Bridges is totally in it. Now call me naive but I seriously didn’t know before hand that he was and it really made the film for me. I guessed he was a badass from the get go with that big “Im gonna kill you” beard but I still thought that it was awesome that he was in it.

I didn’t realise the extent of my Jeff Bridges love until tonight by the way. But I do, for all the reasons below.

Coda

12 May

So recently while trying to streamline my life I decided to be on the look out for a new text editor. One that had all the text highlighting I am used too in Dreamweaver but something that doesn’t have such an identity crisis that Dreamweaver has (where it doesn’t know if it wants to be a pro app or one for noobs to play about in). Well I finally came across a sexy, lightweight alternative. Its called Coda, and no its not new or anything but I certainly had never really heard of, or looked in to it. But its basically awesome. Its fast and when you please CMD+S to save your work it auto uploads its. This is exactly what I have been looking for.

I think that it will take a while before I am fully comfortable with it but I know its a step in the right direction.

Everyone who does any form of online programming need to check this out.

One more year.

10 May

I can’t believe that I have made it through my second year of my degree. Technically I don’t know if I will progress through to the next year or not but I have no worries in the work I produced this year and have all the confidence in the world that I will be back for the last year.

Its scary to think that in such a short period of time everything I have been working for will be over. Finished. To be honest with you if this country didn’t have such a bias towards people with qualifications then I would have never entertained the idea of studying for a degree in this field. Everything I know I taught myself, or more recently from some of the amazingly talented people who I study with. I can honestly say that I haven’t been taught one thing since I started university. This would be a massive shame if it wasn’t for the fact that what this degree has given me is Time. It has let me have the time to go further with my own personal interests in my chosen topic than I could have otherwise. I know I owe a lot of what I have taught myself to the time this course has bought me.

Right now I am desperately trying to think of something that I can work on in my final year. It needs to be big enough to last the whole year and complex enough to challenge me. But it certainly needs to be achievable by one person. I am taking suggestions so please drop me an email ( scott at fourleaves dot co dot uk) or just leave a comment on here.

I will be working hard all summer with a few exceptions of which are both musical excursions. The first being next months Glastonbury Festival which has become a large part of me and my closest friends yearly rituals. The second is a trip to Berlin that me and Heather are taking to see Radiohead. This also fits in nicely with our 3 years of awesomeness, so we are taking the opportunity to have a little break away and staying over there for 4 nights. Im looking forward to both of them as I know that they will be amazing.

Here is to the year a head.

Words and Thoughts in RGB

06 May

Today really was the sunniest so far.

06 May

Saint V

I took the photo on the way home today just outside the new megaplex near my house. Basically walked outside of it and thought wow, the sun really is awesome. Much like woman and their makeup the sun has the same job. To cover up all the blemishes and make things look pretty. Of course there are the girls/places that look good without makeup/sun, but where I live isn’t one of them places.

First day of the year I could walk around with just a t-shirt.

This is just how we roll

Timeclock diagram

Just finished up doing the setup diagrams for the ambitious timeclock project. So if you have two webcams, a Teleo Making Things kit, and a custom built Timeclock you can enjoy the project to its fullest. Otherwise you will have to make do with standard on screen slider and mouse interactions.

Friday seems very close indeed.
